One part of this refurbishment is aimed at improving the sustainability of the building and the business processes. In Heerhugowaard, there was a situation where energy is released during the production of natural vinegar, while a lot of energy is required for processing and bottling. This challenged the company Kodi to integrate ‘Burg Vinegar’ in the Waerdse Energy Circuit that is implemented.
Natural vinegar is essentially a sustainable product. In the fermentation process, heat is produced which can be used for other business operations and heating the offices. Any remaining heat is returned to the grid, so that other companies can use it.
Cooling is also required and for that we use cooling water from the ground. More than 1,000 solar panels have been installed at the refurbished site in Heerhugowaard. And in line with our sustainability goals in which we want to be 100% energy-neutral and self-sufficient, no gas is used on site at all.
